THINGS TO DO IN BROOME

With such beautiful weather, there are so many things to do in Broome during both the wet and dry seasons. Head out and explore this beautiful region while creating your own adventure. In the wet season, tourists usually do their sightseeing and activities earlier in the day, and spend the afternoon relaxing so they don’t get too tired for their next day in paradise. In the dry season, the weather is comfortable enough to sightsee and explore all day long!

For a relaxing environment to eat and drink as well as absorb some of Broome’s history, you will find the Matso’s Broome Brewery building has been standing since 1910, when it began as a Union Bank. Today, Matso’s now boasts a tasty range of craft beer including the famous Ginger and Mango Beers. This award-winning home of Broome’s famous beer should be at the top of your Broome to-do list!

For all of you history buffs, Broome has it all. To find some of its history all in one place, you will enjoy both the Broome Historical Museum on Saville Street and also the Broome Heritage Centre on Barker Street. For a bit of shopping, you will have to check out the Broome Courthouse Markets on Saturdays and Sundays from April to October.

Another one to tick off your list is a visit to Gantheaume Point, located just south of Cable Beach, to see the 130 million year old dinosaur footprints - the kids will love it! This jaw-dropping spot shows an amazing contrast between the deep red rock formations and the turquoise blue of the ocean below.

For a spectacular event that doesn’t cost you any money, the famous Staircase to the Moon occurs three nights per month from March to October. When conditions are just right and the full moon rises over the mudflats of Roebuck Bay at low tide, you will experience the stunning Staircase to the Moon phenomenon.

If you want to explore some of the Kimberley outside of Broome, there are a huge number of cruises to book so take the time to have a look around and see which one is right for you and your family.

The pearling industry remains a vibrant part of Broome and if you are staying in town for the day, you must see the last two remaining pearl luggers located in Chinatown. While you are in Chinatown, take a stroll through the many pearl showrooms, most of which are located on Dampier Terrace.

  • Gantheaume Point - Deep red, rugged rocks contract the amazing tourquise ocean. Great spot for a fish or swim, home to Anastasias Pool.

  • Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park - Established in 1983 this research centre will bring you up and close with some scary creatures.
